We are pleased to announce that 5th grade teacher Chanel Leipzig is being recognized as a 2021 Humboldt County Excellence in Teaching Award recipient.
Mrs. Leipzig has spent much of her life in McKinleyville schools, having attended Dow’s Prairie, McKinleyville Middle School, and McKinleyville High School. She has held several positions in the McKinleyville Union School District including coaching cheerleading, teaching Middle School, and teaching 2nd grade. However, it is in teaching 5th grade at Morris Elementary School where Mrs. Leipzig has truly blossomed as an educator.
Mrs. Leipzig has served the Morris community in many ways over the years, including participating on the Leadership Team, MTSS/PBIS committee, Student Council advisor, and Yearbook and Spelling Bee coordinator. She has also written grants to insure funding so that our 5th graders could attend the overnight Wolf Creek Outdoor Education field trip.
After 10 years of teaching, Mrs. Leipzig still considers herself new to the profession, modeling lifelong learning for her students and other staff members. She is certainly one of Humboldt county’s best up and coming young educators. Mrs. Leipzig is most deserving of the 2021 Humboldt County Excellence in Teaching Award.
